The steam vent in the street is interesting to me because I feel it gives the city a dreamy atmosphere. And I’m also curious about what is underneath, where the steam comes from, and where vents are located. So I investigated multiple vent locations, mostly in Mid-town Manhattan. I researched about this system and realized many famous institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Empire State Building, and Rockerfeller Center are connected to this system underground. It not only provides heating and hot water, but also powers air conditioning. I feel as though this is the heart of New York and I wanted to bring this outside scene inside.
